Luang Namtha Trekking
Luang Namtha Trekking

Start your day of cycling at the office and head out to either the Luang Namtha Museum or the daily fresh market. Learn about Luang Namtha’s history in the museum or explore the variety of local ingredients at the market. Continue your trip to the new stupa, where you can see Buddhist sculptures and artifacts and have a panoramic view of Luang Namtha. Then, you will continue towards That Phum Phuk. Climb the 176 stairs and discover the ruins of this old stupa, which was demolished by an American bomb during the Second Indochina War. A replica has been built right next to it. Wander around and enjoy some of the nicest views of the valley.

Further on, stop in the villages of Ban Nam Ngaem and Ban Phieng Ngam. The first is famous for its rice whiskey, in the latter you will see women busy weaving traditional Lao style skirts. Pick your guide’s brain and learn all about the local culture.

Cycle the dirt roads of the Luang Namtha valley and enjoy nice rice paddy views. In the wet season this will be a lush green area. Choose a rice paddy hut to have your lunch and watch the serene countryside. After lunch, the trip continues to the Nam Dee waterfall. Park your bike and climb up to the waterfall. After cooling down at this jungle area, you can visit Nam Dee village. This Lanten village is famous for its bamboo paper and indigo blue traditional dress. If you’re lucky, you might see the villagers dying the fabric or making the paper. Finally, complete your loop by cycling back to the Forest Retreat Laos office.
